Club Night Report 2nd April 2025

'Safari Talk' by Jason Wharham
03/04/2025
Last night was our last Zoom meeting of the season, it rounded off a very successful season that entertained us with a great variety of speakers - Well done Sarah!!

Last Night we travelled to Southern Africa, mainly but not exclusively Zimbabwe, where Jason (Wharham) our speaker comes from and where his Father still lives. Both of them have been involved with running safaris, conservation of species and research for many years.

His talk started with the more harrowing side of his life, the way poachers are doing damage to the wildlife of the area for the years. Without people being so actively involved in preservation and conservation, many species would be severely affected.

He then went on to show us images of a wide range of wildlife species, His talk was punctuated with tales and beliefs from Folklore of the area, why and how these beliefs came about. His obvious love of the species he came across was clear. It was a very interesting talk, full of interesting images and facts. The early technological issues were soon ironed out and the talk continued uninterrupted. A great end to our Zoom season!!

Next week is our 'Portrait Evening', so come along with camera and tripod, don't forget batteries and a memory card!! I understand from Sarah there will be some still life type set ups available. It will also be the last chance to vote on the themes for next seasons' competitions!!.

It is also the hand in for prints for the April Competition - Shadow and Light and Open. Photoentry is now open for uploading of the dpi versions of the prints. Any problems, contact Huw - Competitions - wdcccompetitions@gmail.com
