A talk on Equine Photography by Janey Lazenby
06/03/2025
Last night Janey Lazenby treated us to an informative and interesting talk on Equine Photography. She is always an interesting, engaging and well informed speaker and her talk was full of useful information. She told us about the variety of events available to 'shoot', some more accessible than others! She also gave many tips, safety advice, lighting and how to manage flash, the important part that a horse's handler plays, how horses react to certain stimuli and much much more.

She also gave tips on how owners want their horses to look and what sort of image is likely to be favoured for competitions and BPE exhibitions, different images arefavoured for each. She then showed us some of her images, which are amazing! She loves 'role playing and enactment' type images that tell a story. A great talk full of useful tips.

The Competition Sub Committee is beginning to take shape, we have had a couple of offers of help for which we are really grateful, but could really do with at least one more. We are breaking the job down into small pieces so that no one has a huge amount to do. So whether it is 'driving ' the laptop occasionally, collecting and sending off prints or some other little task, please do contact me - pretty please!! We do want the Competition side of the programme to continue.

Nick asked everyone to send in some suggestions for Competition themes for next year, please send all suggestions to Nick Farnahm - nick@noillusion.co.uk or me.

Next week we have the WCPF Travelling Exhibition from the Members' Exhibition. It is a good chance to get together and learn what selectors are looking for and to discuss the things that we like/don't like and exchange ideas. This is 'home' at the Wellington Rugby Club.

Next week is also the final hand in date for the March Competition - Digital images
The Great Outdoors - No definition - get those ideas flowing! Judge: Richard Curzon and as always - Open

As Huw outlined last night, we (the committee and a few 'willing volunteers'!!) have been trialling the use of 'PhotoEntry'. This is a website that allows much easier handling of Competition Entries, it is not dissimilar to other entry systems such as that used by salons or the WCPF. We would like to test this on a 'real' WDCC competition but it is looking very promising. It will significantly aid the Competition Sec/Committee and also the Webmaster, as Ray also told us last night. It is very flexible and will have benefits to entrants as well, but that will become clearer when we have used it in earnest.

For those who have already used the website, please log in and enter your images into the March Competition. If you have not previously logged in, please send your images to Huw (Competition Sec) - wdcccompetitions@gmail.com - in the normal way, Huw will then send out further instructions on how to use PhotoEntry. If by any chance, you are not able to do this, Huw will have your images and will be able to enter them into the Competition.
