February Competitions - 26th February 2025

Last night was our February Competition, the theme being Complementary Colours and the ususal Open.
25/02/2025
The theme seemed to test us, but that is a good thing and helps us develop our photography and, in this case, our understanding of colour. As always, some fantastic images in both sections. The judge was Peter Hyett from Exmouth who delivered his judgement, as always whether we agree with what he said, is up to us!! It's important to remember that we make images that we personally like, I have to remind myself of that cos Peter didn't short list any of mine!! And I'm not bitter (much!!). Well done to all entrants and Special Congratulations to the winners - Martin Barber and Lynne Thomas and also to Chris Mowthorpe and Suzanne Hancock who had all 3 of their images held back in the Top Ten.

I have attached the 'League table' which is 'just for fun!!' (for Feb 24 please read Feb 25!!) Lots of changes of position and new names featuring - which is great!

Diane (Chair ) spoke to us about the situation of Competition Secretary and the crisis that we face following Huw standing down at the end of this season. We previously put out a request for volunteer(s) to fill this role, and one person did volunteer, for which we are very grateful. We held a committee meeting on Tuesday and we are hoping to form a sub committee of about 4 people. The role will be broken down into small parts which will make the task more manageable. We only hold 7 competitions a year and enter a few external comps.

If we do not get at least one more volunteer, there will be no more competitions for WDCC, which would be a great shame as they form a big part of what the club is about and most members feel that entering competitions has helped them to 'up their game'.

So please, if you value the competitions and could spare a few hours between September and April, please do talk to us, either email me or Diane (Chair) - diane70.30@gmail.com - or any member of the committee. PLEASE!!
