Club Night Report 18th December 2024

The last meeting of the year last evening was our Christmas Social Evening, and it was very sociable - it was lovely to see so many people and have a chance to talk and catch up!!
21/12/2024
The meeting started with some club business. Peter Tickner, who has been Club Chair for 20 years announced that he was standing down with immediate effect due to ill health. He proposed Diane Rowe as his successor. this was seconded by Christoher Bowyer, and following a vote, she was appointed as Club Chair.

Nick Farnham has been co-ordinating the Club's entry into the WCPF (Western Counties Photographic Federation) Inter Club Championship. This event takes place on 2 Feb 2025 at the Corn Exchange Exeter. It is a great chance to see the best of our region's camera club images.

If anyone is planning on going to this event, please let Nick or me know, as it is also the closing date for entries for the Knightshayes Trophy which is on the subject of Twin, Two or a Pair - nick@noillusion.co.uk

I am in the process of preparing a calendar of events for the WCPF events, as it's all a bit confusing - I'll send it out when I've finished it.

We then got on to the fun part of the evening - a quiz prepared by Huw, which tested our brains, some of it Wellington based, some was on the history of photography and some nature. It was both fun and full of information and facts. I t must have taken some time to prepare. Huge thanks to Huw.

We feasted on a magnificent spread provided by members - thank you all for the great food supplied, also thanks to Ruth, Rachel and Di for doing the tea and helping generally and cleared up afterwards, Also thanks to everyone who also helped clear up. And lastly thanks to Sarah who co-ordinated the event so that everything ran as smoothly as it did.

Members present voted on their favourite image from the flower evening and also for the Christmas Card competition by voting with dots, both of which carried a prize of a bottle of wine. Both were won by Martin Barber who passed his Christmas Card prize on to the second placed card - entered by Peter Elliston - Well done to these two and of course to everyone who entered. At the end of the evening, our retiring Chair, Peter T thanked the committee for their help and support over the years. Diane (Incoming Chair) thanked Peter T for his long and dedicated service. Tony Drew representing the members also thanked him for 20 years of service to the club.

Our next meeting is on Wednesday 8th January 2025 at 19:30 at Wellington Rugby Club for a Talk: 'Out of the Dark' with Guest Speaker: Simon Caplan LRPS - capturing the mood and atmosphere in your images. In this talk Simon introduces audiences to the art of the still life - and still life photography in particular.

All that remains is for me to wish EVERYONE a Very Happy Christmas. Hopefully not too many more emails this year from me!! (Although I will send out the WCPF timetable when completed.
Have fun!!
Very best wishes and see you next year
