Club Night Report 13th November 2024
Sri Lankan Adventures and Studio Photography
14/11/2024
Last night we were entertained (and informed!) by 2 of our members. The evening was both of those things and was a very enjoyable evening, with two very different presentations.
Firstly Nick, (with Di adding comments here and there!!) recounted and showed loads of images of his trip to the South West corner of Sri Lanka, which took place in 2018. Nick had previously booked their hotels for their trip but had bravely (some might say foolishly!!) not organised the transport between the hotels or to the places that they were hoping to visit. We heard about the trials and tribulations of hiring taxis in some of the out of the way places that they travelled to! Fortunately everything worked out well and they arrived where they wanted to without too many problems, even if sometimes the drivers did not know where they were going!! Nick kept us entertained with some of the stories and his lovely photos of a really lovely place to visit.
Then it was Peter E's turn! His talk was about Studio Portraiture, and in particular an event that he organised for Club members last April. He told us about the studio, which is near Ilminster, the models and what he hoped that he and the participants would gain from the event. He showed images that most of the participants in the event had forwarded to him which demonstrated the variety of images it was possible to shoot depending the instructions/guidance that individual photographers had given to the models. Also he showed that things were often quite light hearted and showed us some more 'whacky' images form the day. Peter is hoping to arrange another event and I can highly recommend the events having been on a couple of them.
As usual I will send out the Zoom link at the weekend.
Next week we have a Zoom meeting - : Simon Ellingworth '10x secrets of street photography' international award-winning photographer and educator, who specialises in street, available light portraiture, composition, gestalt theory and black and white photography. Some of us have been on courses/workshops run by Simon, and found that he has many useful tips! Street photography is often a feared/underestimated/overlooked genre of photography that is hopefully gaining in popularity and acceptance (but not by most judges in comps though) (imho!!).
The contact details that Mike Barrow talked about, to obtain a pdf on Drone photography, is john3143hudson@gmail.com. If you do request a copy, mention the fact that you attended the talk that he (John Hudson) delivered to Tiverton Camera Club last Monday.
Huw (competition Sec) reported that entries for the competition (a Local Event and Open) were going well . He kindly said that for anyone hoping to enter who had not sent in entries yet, he is able to accept entries until early on Saturday morning.
