Last night's meeting was our Portrait Evening in the Rugby Club. Andrew had arranged for three of the members of the Wellington Folk and Custom Society to join us, in their costumes, to act as our models
We were delighted to welcome Bishop Blaize, Saint Brigit and Mr Double Danger the 2nd, complete with his antlered headdress. Mr Double Danger explained a little about their characters. Bishop Blaize is the Patron Saint of Wool-combers and traditionally the local workers from the wool industry would elect their own Bishop Blaize and celebrate his Saints Day together in local taverns or workers' cottages where there was a great deal of drinking and merrymaking. St Brigid of Ireland has strong connections with many areas of Somerset and her name is reflected in many of the places names of the West Country such as Bridport. Mr Double Danger himself is the leader and organiser of the group.
We were all able to photograph them as a group, in pairs and individually. I am sure some of those images will appear either in one or more of our competitions or maybe a show and tell evening. Many thanks to Andrew and to all who helped him set up the room ready for the evening
