Wednesday nights meeting got the second half of our 25/26 season off to a very good start. Our ‘Wild Card’ evening saw Laura Pearce join us to look at some of our images and lead us all in a critique session of comments and good advice. Members brought up to 4 images each and we had quite a number to get through in the allotted time. However Laura managed to give each one due consideration and some helpful comments to the photographer concerned with other helpful tips coming from the audience.
Laura was able to impart some general tips, as well, as we went through the evening. She reminded us that the titles you give to your images are important to help point the viewer in the direction of the story you want to tell and make clear the reason you have chosen that subject. Size and orientation are also important to emphasize the subject. Landscape or portrait or even square depending on the image. Make careful decisions about what to include and what to leave out. This can need particular attention with exterior shots – landscape or street etc. And with pet animals and wildlife, both notoriously uncooperative, shots with them looking straight at the camera are always the best ones, if they can be achieved.
It was both an enjoyable and informative evening and good to get together again, even in this coldest time of the year.
