Wednesday's (1 Oct) meeting at the Rugby Club was a talk by Steve Wilcox on Post Production with the focus on the 'what and why' rather than the 'how'. Steve talked to us about identifying the story we want to convey through our images and making sure that that is what the viewer sees. He explained that the most important elements needed to attract the eye of the viewer are brightness, colour, contrast and sharpness and that once you have identified the focal point of the image these are the qualities that need to be emphasised. He took us through some of his own images and explained to us how he had maximised their impact. After the break we moved into 'audience participation' mode and he showed some more images and asked for suggestions as to how they might also be treated to produce the best images. The whole evening was very enjoyable and full of useful tips.
Steve will be presenting this talk to other clubs and as we were his first audience he would be very grateful for any feedback. So please send any ideas you may have on adding to or improving the presentation to me and I will collate them and forward them to Steve. You will also find a PDF version of his checklist below.
Next week's meeting is another Zoom meeting and the link for that will be sent out at the weekend. The link is also available on the website for those that have a login. If you go to the programme section of the website and click on the title of the talk the Zoom link will be available on the screen.
The following week (15 Oct) we will be back at the Rugby Club and it will be our first Challenge evening. So please bring up to 8 images on a memory stick on the theme of 'Something to make us smile or laugh'. The same evening is the hand in date for the next competition which is a print competition on the theme 'Conversation'. So please remember to bring in your print entries on the same evening. Please also remember that you will still need to load electronic versions of your prints onto the competition area of the website and that will also need to be done by the same date.
Whilst we are talking about Competitions I am pleased to be able to tell you that the results and images from competitions and the league tables are now on the website.
