Wednesdays evening was a Zoom meeting at which Jane Lazenby spoke to us on how to ‘Find Your Own Story’. As usual Jane was an informative, and entertaining speaker who showed us some truly amazing images, some of which were wholly ‘in camera’ images and others that showed what can be achieved in post-processing.
She talked about the reasons for creating your own story within an image to produce something that is unique and wholly your own take on a subject. She suggested using the things that make you happy, such as favourite books, poetry, films etc or memories from your own life, as a basis for the story portrayed within the image. Although she concentrates largely on people and horses she said that this philosophy translates equally well to all genres of photography, and that the use of props and costume and the title you give the image can set whatever story and emotion that you want to convey. And using events and emotions that you have experienced – good and bad – make it a very personal story.
In the second half of her talk Jane explained some of the editing techniques she uses to achieve the results she wants. Adjustments to colour and light can change the mood of an image and complete the story
Janes images, as usual, were a delight and the meeting was much enjoyed
