It’s always good to finish a club season on a high note and the most recent meeting of the camera club was no exception.
This was our last competition of the current season. It was a print competition with the theme of 'The Season' and 'Open'. The judge was Duncan Armour.
Duncan provided some useful pointers on how to tweak our pictures so that they stood a better chance in club competitions. He explained that he looked more for the stories pictures told rather than their technical excellence. He also suggested that trying different kinds of printing paper other than gloss sometimes worked far better for an image and how big prints are not always the best option. The results were...

2nd. Rachel Carter for 'Masai Mara Magic' - a wonderful distance shot of wildlife activity
3rd Polly Knowles for 'Spanish Church Tower' - an image that baffled the judge but captivated him by its graphic impact
Highly Commended went to Peter Elliston for 'The Stare' and 'Girl Counting' and Paul Carter for 'Gull with Egg Fly-By'
Commended went to Polly Knowles for 'The Downpipe'

1st Diane Rowe for 'Summer' - a letterbox format for a sweep of poppies set against the yellow of rape flowers.
2nd Polly Knowles for 'Lazing on a sunny afternoon' - a shot of the British on holiday outside their beach hut.
3rd Maurice Sadler for 'Autumn Reflections - mountains and trees and beautiful autumn colours.
Highly Commended went to Nick Farnham for 'Exmoor Summer' and Commended went to Diane Rowe for 'Essence of Autumn' and Paul Carter for 'Autumnal Deer'.
